I’m taking the 30 day video game challenge! Each day is a different conversation inducing topic. Day 1-Very First Video Game.
There I was five years old and for whatever reason was gifted with a SNES and Super Mario World. This game would be my companion throughout childhood and beyond, not only was it my first video game ever, it was also the first game that I truly loved. I scoured that game from top to bottom, because think about it, when that’s the only game you own what do you do? You peel back the layers, you find everything and just when you thought you’d found it all, you dig deeper.
I played that game probably more than any child should, but I loved every minute of it. After the release of the SNES classic, I thought returning to this game 20 years after the first time I played it, would make me realize it’s not as fun as I thought. Well I’m here to reassure you that I still find this to be one of my favorite games of all time despite it’s age. What’s even crazier is that I still remember everything! When I think of this game I get all those warm and fuzzy video game feelings. The sounds, the music, the enemies, even the “bosses,” this game hasn’t lost a step. To this day it’s my favorite Mario game of all time (sorry Mario 64), it is undoubtedly the start to my video game passion. If you’ve never used a cape to fly with 2D Mario, then you simply haven’t lived.
What was your first video game? I would love to hear about it in the comments below!
